Dear Younger Me, Keep Writing

Dear younger me,

You're writing in notebooks no one else will ever read. You're filling journals with prayers, questions, dreams, and pages that feel far too ordinary to matter. You wonder if anyone would ever care about the stories running through your head, and if they did, whether you'd ever be brave enough to let them read them.

So let me tell you something from a few years down the road. Keep writing.

Not every sentence will be brilliant. Not every story will change someone's life. Keep writing because you're learning to pay attention. One day you'll realize writing has never been about collecting the perfect words. It's about noticing the fingerprints of God in ordinary moments before they slip by unnoticed.

You'll write about coffee. About camp. About motherhood. About marriage. About friendships that shape you and seasons that stretch you. You'll write through grief, joy, uncertainty, laughter, and questions that don't have neat endings.

Some days you'll write because you're overflowing. Other days you'll write because you don't know what else to do with what's in your heart. Both are worth writing.

There will be days when you wonder if you've shared too much. You'll reread a post five times before hitting publish. You'll convince yourself no one needs to hear what you have to say. And then someone will quietly tell you they needed exactly those words. It's not because you had all the answers. It was because you were honest. Never underestimate what honesty can do.

You'll spend years believing that writing requires having everything figured out. It doesn't. Some of the stories people will hold closest are the ones you wrote while you were still trying to understand them yourself. Don't wait until every chapter has a tidy ending before you tell the truth about where you are. God is present in the middle of stories, too.

You won't become the woman you imagined. You'll become someone better.

Someone who knows where to bring the questions. Someone who learns that courage often looks like clicking "publish" with shaky hands. Someone who keeps looking for joy anyway. And somewhere along the way, you'll discover that writing has never simply been something you do. It has become one of the ways God teaches you. Sometimes you'll sit down believing you're writing for someone else. Halfway through, you'll realize He's writing something into your own heart instead. Those are some of the best days.

Dear Present Me...

This part is for you, too.

Keep writing. Keep writing the stories that cost something. Keep writing before you've polished every rough edge. Keep writing about the ordinary Tuesdays that don't seem important until years later. Keep writing the questions. Keep writing the prayers. Keep writing the moments that make you laugh so hard you wonder if anyone else will understand them. Keep writing about the places where God meets you when you least expect Him. And keep writing your life—not only with words, but with the way you live.

Keep writing kindness into conversations. Keep writing grace into mistakes. Keep writing hope into ordinary mornings. Keep writing faithfulness into work that no one applauds. Keep writing love into your marriage. Keep writing wonder into motherhood. Keep writing joy into the story, even on the pages where it feels harder to find.

Not every chapter needs to go on a blog. Some will be written in quiet acts of obedience. Some in whispered prayers. Some in showing up. Some in forgiving. Some in waiting. Some in simply choosing to believe that God is still at work when you can't yet see the ending. Those chapters matter just as much.

So whether your hands are holding a pen, resting on a keyboard, or simply reaching for the next faithful step... Keep writing. Your life is telling a story. Live one worth reading.
