Discernment Diaries: Somewhere Between Gratitude and Uncertainty

Sometimes I think the hardest thing to admit is that life can look really good while you still feel deeply unsettled inside.

Because lately, things have been good.

There have been opportunities I prayed for.

Conversations that felt meaningful.

Moments that reminded me God is moving.

Things I never thought I’d be capable of doing are somehow happening anyway.

And I’m grateful for all of it.

But underneath the gratitude, there’s also been this quiet wrestling I can’t seem to shake.

I keep wondering if I’m where I’m supposed to be.

If I’m building the right things. If I’m pouring myself into the right places.

If I’m listening well enough to God or just listening to the noise in my own head.

And honestly, I don’t have some beautiful answer tied together at the end of this.

I wish I did.

I wish discernment always felt clear and holy and obvious.

I wish purpose came with certainty.

I wish growth didn’t also come with second guessing yourself constantly.

But lately, my mind has just felt loud.

Not because everything is falling apart.

Maybe that’s what makes it harder to explain.

Nothing is necessarily wrong. In many ways, things are better than they’ve been in a long time. Yet somehow I still feel stuck inside my own thoughts, trying to figure out if I’m becoming who I’m supposed to be or just becoming good at staying busy.

Trying to figure out if peace is supposed to feel different than this.

Trying to figure out whether it’s normal to hold joy and uncertainty at the exact same time.

Maybe this is just part of growing up.

Maybe it’s part of leadership.

Maybe it’s part of faith.

Or maybe I’m simply tired.

I don’t know.

I just know there are nights where my mind refuses to quiet down, where I replay everything, question everything, and wonder if everyone else secretly knows something I don’t.

And maybe that’s why I’m writing this.

Not because I have wisdom to offer.

Not because I’ve figured out how to silence the overthinking.

Not because I reached some inspiring conclusion.

But because maybe someone else feels this way too.

Maybe someone else is carrying both gratitude and uncertainty at the same time.

Maybe someone else is succeeding outwardly while inwardly feeling completely unsure of where they stand.

Maybe someone else is quietly asking God,“Am I where I’m supposed to be?”and hearing nothing but silence afterward.

I don’t really know where this season is leading.

I just know I’m in it.

What This Season is Asking of Me

Lately, I’ve been less interested in answers and more attentive to questions. Not the urgent kind — the kind that demand immediate decisions or tidy conclusions. But the quieter questions. The ones th
