The Men Who Taught Me What Love Looks Like

Father's Day has always felt a little bigger to me.
Not because of gifts or cookouts or greeting cards, but because when I look around my life, I see the fingerprints of so many good men.
I see my dad, my grandpas, my stepdad, my father-in-law.
And now, I see my husband.
Somehow, God has surrounded me with men who have shown me what love looks like—not through grand gestures, but through consistency. Through showing up. Through support. Through encouragement. Through quiet sacrifices that often go unnoticed.
My Dad
When I think about my dad, I think about memories. The kind that don't always seem significant in the moment but become treasures as the years go by.
I think about the car rides and conversations. The moments of laughter that still make me smile years later. The times he showed up, cheered me on, and reminded me that I was loved. I think about the steady presence he was throughout my childhood—the kind of presence that quietly shapes who you become.
As a child, you don't always realize you're watching and learning. You don't realize that the way your parents treat people, handle challenges, and love their family is teaching you something about the world. But looking back, I can see how much I learned from my dad.
I learned the value of showing up.
I learned that caring for people isn't always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it's found in everyday faithfulness—in the long days, the hard work, the sacrifices no one sees, and the countless ways a father puts his family first.
I learned what support looks like. Even now, as an adult, I know I can call my dad. I know he'll listen. I know he'll care. I know he'll celebrate the victories and help carry the burdens.
One of the greatest gifts my dad gave me was confidence. Not because he told me life would be easy, but because he believed in me. He encouraged me to try, to learn, to grow, and to keep going. That kind of belief stays with a person.
Time has a way of revealing what once seemed ordinary. The sacrifices. The long hours. The worries he carried. The ways he worked to provide opportunities and create memories for our family.
And now, as a wife and mother myself, I see fatherhood through a different lens.
I understand more fully the weight of responsibility and the depth of love that parents carry. I recognize the countless unseen choices that go into caring for a family. And in many ways, becoming a parent has made me even more grateful for my own.
My dad wasn't just part of my story—he helped shape it.
His love, encouragement, and steady presence became part of the foundation I still stand on today. And while I know no parent is perfect, I thank God for the father He gave me and for the many memories we continue to make together.
Some gifts become more valuable with time.
A good father is one of them.
The Village of Fathers
Father's Day also reminds me how blessed I've been to experience that same kind of love from other men throughout my life.
My grandpas helped shape some of my earliest memories. Their love, wisdom, and presence are gifts I still carry with me today. Even though some of those moments have long since passed, their impact remains.
I've also been blessed by a stepdad, a father-in-law, and chosen papa—men who chose to love, support, encourage, and care for me. Men who offered guidance when I needed it, celebrated milestones, showed up for important moments, and reminded me that family is sometimes built through love just as much as biology.
Not everyone gets that kind of village.
I don't take it for granted.
I've come to realize that one of God's greatest gifts is the people He places around us. The ones who cheer us on. The ones who help carry burdens. The ones who make us feel seen, valued, and loved.
I've been incredibly blessed by those kinds of men.
Watching Fatherhood Up Close
And then there is my husband.
Watching him become a father has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
There is something beautiful about seeing the person you love become the parent your child needs.
I see the patience.
I see the gentleness.
I see the way our son lights up when he walks into the room.
I see the countless little moments that make up fatherhood—the bedtime stories, the playtime on the floor, the comforting hugs, the silly jokes, the lessons being taught every single day.
Some of the most meaningful parts of fatherhood happen in ordinary moments. They happen in routines and conversations and moments that may not seem important at the time.
But that's often where love is found. And every time I watch my husband love our son, I find myself grateful all over again.
The Father Behind Every Good Gift
This Father's Day, my heart is simply full.
Full of gratitude for my dad.
Full of gratitude for the grandpas who loved me.
Full of gratitude for the men who stepped in, stood beside me, and helped shape my story.
Full of gratitude for the father of my child.
But most of all, full of gratitude for God the Father.
I've become increasingly aware that every good gift in my life has its source in Him. The love I've experienced through my dad, my grandpas, my husband, and so many other caring men has given me glimpses of the Father's heart.
Not a perfect picture—because none of us are perfect—but a reminder of His faithfulness, provision, protection, and unconditional love.
When I think about the men who have helped shape my story, I see traces of God's goodness woven through each chapter. Their encouragement, support, wisdom, and care have been gifts from a loving Father who knew exactly what I would need along the way.
Sometimes joy isn't found in extraordinary moments. Sometimes it's found in looking around and realizing just how loved you've been all along.
Loved by family.
Loved by a village.
Loved by a Father who has never stopped walking beside you.
This Father's Day, that's the story I'm holding onto.
And what a beautiful story it is.
