Open Hands Looks Like Peace

I didn’t realize how tightly I was holding on…until I finally let go.
Not in a dramatic, everything-changes-in-an-instant kind of way.
But in a quiet, honest moment with God where I admitted:
“My timeline isn’t working.”
Maybe you’ve been there too.
You’ve prayed about it.
Planned for it.
Worked toward it.
Envisioned how it should go.
And yet… things aren’t lining up the way you thought they would.
We don’t always recognize it as control.
Sometimes it just feels like pressure.
Pressure to be further along.
Pressure to have it figured out.
Pressure to make things happen in the timing we had in mind.
And when life doesn’t match that timeline, it can leave us feeling behind… or frustrated… or even questioning if we missed something.
But what if the issue isn’t that you’re behind…
What if it’s that you’ve been trying to carry something God never asked you to control?
There’s a shift that happens—not when everything falls into place— but when your heart finally does.
When you stop striving to force your timeline…and start trusting God’s.
When you release the need to make everything happen…and instead say:
“God, I trust where You have me right now.”
That kind of surrender doesn’t always change your circumstances immediately.
But it changes you.
What surprised me most wasn’t what God did around me.
It was what He did within me.
There was a peace that replaced the pressure.
A steadiness where there used to be striving.
A sense that maybe—just maybe—I wasn’t actually behind at all.
And from that place?
Things started to shift.
Not because I finally figured it all out…but because I stopped trying to control it all.
Here’s what I’m learning:
When your hands are closed—gripping your plans, your timeline, your expectations—it’s hard to receive anything different.
But when your hands are open?
You begin to notice God moving in ways you might have missed before.
Opportunities you didn’t plan for.
Doors you didn’t force open.
Ideas you didn’t strive to create.
Not because God just started moving—but because you finally made space for Him to.
Letting go of your timeline doesn’t mean giving up on your life.
It means trusting that God sees more than you do.
It means believing that where you are right now isn’t wasted.
It means choosing peace over pressure.
And sometimes, it means realizing that the very things you were trying so hard to make happen…begin to unfold when you stop forcing them.
If you’ve been feeling the weight of “not being where you thought you’d be”…
This is your reminder:
You don’t have to rush what God is still writing.
You don’t have to force what He hasn’t opened.
You don’t have to carry the pressure of a timeline He never gave you.
You can open your hands.
And trust that what He’s doing—right here, right now—
isn’t behind. It’s intentional.
