The Discernment Diaries: An Introduction

Learning to Listen When Life Feels Unclear

If I’m being honest, I’ve never found discernment easy. I’m not one of those people who always knows when God is speaking or instantly senses which direction to take. More often than not, I find myself sitting in the in-between — praying, second-guessing, overanalyzing, and wondering if I’ve somehow missed the memo from Heaven.

For a long time, I thought discernment meant certainty. That if I were “in tune” enough with God, I’d never feel confused or conflicted. But over time — and through a lot of wrestling — I’ve realized that discernment is rarely clear-cut. It’s a process, not a moment. A posture, not a formula.

Some days, I hear God’s guidance loud and clear. Other days, it feels like static. But even in the quiet, He’s been teaching me how to listen differently — not just for His answers, but for His presence in the waiting.

That’s where The Discernment Diaries was born.

It started as a collection of journal entries — raw prayers, half-formed thoughts, and small revelations from seasons when I was seeking direction. Writing became a way of slowing down enough to notice where God was moving beneath the surface. Sometimes clarity came right away; other times, it came months later when I reread a page and saw how He’d been weaving things together all along.

Now, I’m turning those reflections into this ongoing series. It won’t follow a strict timeline or theme — The Discernment Diaries will appear between and during other seasons, woven into the rhythm of everything else I write. Because that’s how discernment really works in life — not as one neat chapter, but as a thread that runs through all of them.

Each entry will explore the holy work of listening, waiting, and trusting — especially when God feels silent or when the path ahead doesn’t make sense.

If you’ve ever felt stuck between “what was” and “what’s next,” or if you’ve prayed for a sign and only heard echoes, you’re not alone. My hope is that these reflections remind you that God is guiding you — not just toward an answer, but toward deeper intimacy with Him in the process.

So here’s to listening, learning, and leaning into uncertainty together.

Welcome to The Discernment Diaries.
